Design Ventures exhibited its first furniture and furnishings
collections at the Philippine Furniture Fair in Manila in 1990.
Having popularized the use of ceramic tiles on furniture, product
research and development has always been the company's top priority.
In 1993 Debbie won for the Design Ventures the coveted KATHA
award for Best Product Collection in the Manila fair with her
Water Buffalo line in terracotta tiles and metal.
In 1997, she won the Best Product Design for Contemporary in
the Cebu Fair, for the skeletal metal frame chaise with stitched
leather.
In 1994, Debbie's Vitruvian chair was chosen to grace the cover
of the International Home Furnishings Market Resource Guide,
Fall edition, Highpoint, North Carolina.
As one of the Philippine designers sponsored by the Carl Duisberg
Gesellschaft (CDG) in Germany for the Advanced Eco-Design Management
Programme in 1998, Debbie has continued to pursue her design
developments using only sustainable and renewable materials
on contemporary lines.
Debbie derives her design inspirations from her Filipino heritage,
from her studies of the Malay and other Eastern cultures. Her
design philosophy revolves around concepts that mix the linear
simplicity of the West with the "wabi-sabi" complexity
of the East. She takes responsibility for her designs, considers
comfort and purpose as well as other manufacturing concerns
on the consistent achievement of quality.
As President of the Designers Guild-Philippines, Debbie takes
the designer's resposibility to his consumers and to the environment
seriously and hopes to bring the organization nearer to its
mission and vision.
